Atmar, Qureshi Discuss Peace, Truce
Afghan acting Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar held a telephone call with the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, on Tuesday evening.
Both sides discussed possibilities of resolving visa issues and expanding consular capacity for Afghan citizens, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
According to the statement, they spoke about the latest progress in the Afghan peace talks and joint cooperation between the two countries in this regard, especially the role that Pakistan can play in ensuring the resumption of talks by aiding with the removal of hurdles, reducing violence and ensuring a nationwide ceasefire.
The two sides exchanged views on strengthening regional consensus on peace talks, the statement added.
The Pakistani Foreign Minister reiterated that the ongoing violence in Afghanistan can only end through intra-Afghan talks. He also expressed his country’s full support for the Afghan peace process and the preservation of the achievements of the past 19 years.
The two sides also stressed the need to expand and strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.
