‘Ay Khanom’ Port in Takhar Fell to Taliban – says – provincial official

A spokesperson to the governor of Takhar province on Saturday confirmed that Taliban took the control of Ay Khanom port in Dasht-e Qala district.
According to reports, Taliban group has been pushing to capture Ay Khanom port for a month.
The port is one of Afghanistan’s commercial ports with Tajikistan that also has historical and ancient importance.

“2 border police were killed, 2 injured and 5 more were captured by Taliban during the Taliban’s raid last night,” said Sunatullah Taimuri, the provincial governor spokesman.
Taliban set on fire a tank and 2 police ringers as well as taking away the ammunition, the spokesman added.

This comes as the Taliban group killed at least 16 police officers in Takhar province last week.
