Contact Group is Regional-Oriented Process – Iranian Representative on Kabul Meeting

DID Press: Referring to regional cooperation initiative meeting held in Kabul on Monday, Iran’s ambassador and special representative on Afghanistan affairs said that based on Tehran’s proposal, special representatives of governments in the region and some other countries gathered here to confer in regional contact committee forum for engagement with Afghanistan.


Iranian ambassador and special representative for Afghanistan, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, wrote on X that based on Tehran’s proposal mentioned in the September 29 statement of the Moscow Format Summit (Kazan 2023), the special representatives of China, Iran, Pakistan, the Russian Federation, and other countries in the region  have gathered in Kabul on 29 January 2024 at the invitation of the Acting government of Afghanistan to begin a series of regional contact committee dialuges for engagement with Afghanistan.
“From the point of view of this group, the progress of these negotiations – which will be pursued with the aim of helping the people and Afghanistan, as well as the stability and security of the region – requires a positive view of the authorities with the aim of success in a regional-oriented process,” Qomi added.
Qomi expressed these remarks while the “Regional Cooperation Initiative” meeting was being held in Kabul.
