An explosion ripped through a mosque inside an army base in Afghanistan’s eastern Khost province during Friday prayer, but contradictory statistics released on media outlets regarding the suicide attack.
“as a result of the Friday attack in the province, at least 12 were killed and 33 others were wounded,” Hakim Khan Habibi, Khost governor told reporters.
Meanwhile, some media outlets reported that Friday attack left 27 killed and 50 injuries.
President Ashraf Ghani condemned the attack in a statement as “anti-Islamic and inhumane.”
He also wanted to know how the army’s security was breached, demanding a swift investigation and the officials responsible held accountable.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the explosion.
The explosion came just days after a suicide bomber killed 55 religious scholars gathered in capital Kabul, to celebrate the holiday marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
