President Ghani’s special envoy for regional consensus on peace and the chief executive officer of the high peace council (HPC) Secretariat, Mohammad Umar Daudzai met Chinese officials in Beijing and discussed peace efforts, the HPC said in a statement.
During a meeting with Chinese Assistant FM Mr. Chen Shao Deng; “Chinese supportive role in peace, reconciliation and coordination of regional efforts for Afghanistan peace were discussed,” said the statement.

Mr Daudzia also met Chinese president’s special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan ambassador Deng Xijun and discussed regional consensus on peace in Afghanistan.

“Regional consensus on peace and assistance role of China in Afghan peace process were discussed,” the statement added.
The president’s envoy for regional consensus on peace M. Umar Daudzai had previously visited Pakistani high-level officials to coordinate regional consensus on peace in Afghanistan.

The visit from China comes as US-Taliban talks in Doha, Qatar have had unprecedented progress.
Taliban sources also said Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the militants’ former number two who was recently released from custody in Pakistan, would now take direct charge of the negotiations in Doha.
American officials have sought assurances that after any peace deal, jihadist militants such as al Qaeda and the Islamic State group would not be allowed to plot attacks against the West.
However, Taliban have not yet agreed to directly talk with the Afghan government.
