Afghan presidential palace (Arg) released the details of President Ghani’s meeting with the US Defence and Interior secretaries on the sideline of the Munich security conference. US officials assured President Ghani that every clause of the agreement is conditions-based.
“US State and Defence ministries retreated that agreement with the Taliban which likely will be finalized in the coming weeks has condition-based content,” Arg said in a statement, citing US officials.
“They said that every clause of the agreement with the Taliban is condition-based. The Taliban may launch seductive propaganda, but the reality is that they (Taliban) have been willing to give up war and acknowledge a pluralistic society,” added the statement.
The sides also discussed in detail the mechanisms that guarantee the control and oversight of the Afghan government in addition to ownership of the peace process.
According to the statement, President Ghani is set to launch a series of consultations with Afghan security and defense forces next week on various walks of the society, civil society and political circles to inform them of the current developments and the opportunities and risks they may face.
The Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, as the sponsor of the peace program, thanks the US government for the peace process and assures the Afghan people that this process would strengthen all military and civilian institutions.
