The leadership council of Jamiat-e Islami party considered this action of the presidency illegal and unacceptable.

“Distributing E-ID cards is not suitable in the current situation and will hurt the registration process of people for election,” Jamiat party announced in a statement.

According to the statement: “On the eve of the parliamentary, district councils elections, the country needs unity and security before anything. Distribution of the E-ID cards with its controversial content severely disrupts the process of public attention to the registration process and damages the incentive to participate in the election.”

The party has said not to write the “ethnicity” in the new ID cards will affect the unity and solidarity of the people of Afghanistan.

“Jamiat-e Islami party stresses on the unity and solidarity of the people and calls on ARG to avoid divisive actions,” a part of the statement said.

President Ghani on Thursday officially launched the process of distributing new E-ID cards be receiving his new card. Hours later, the CEO Abdullah vowed the decision is not legitimate and this is a failed process.

The main controversy is over inserting “ethnicity” in E-ID cards. Some emphasize that ethnicity should be mentioned in the new ID cards (Tazkiras) while some say the word “Afghan” should be inserted for all citizens of the country.
