Speaking to reporters in Multan on Sunday, the foreign minister said Pakistan’s stance for a negotiated settlement to the Afghan conflict had been vindicated.
He said United States Senator Lindsay Graham had admitted that Islamabad had the right approach for peace in Afghanistan. “This is a milestone in Pakistan’s foreign policy domain,” said Qureshi. Express Tribune reported.
“Nations do not only hold talks to seek aid. We have strategies and a vision that we will continue to pursue. Financial help is not important; we are not seeking aid, we are seeking peace,”
The remarks come as Mr Qureshi had traveled to regional countries in order to facilitate peace talks between Taliban group and the Americans.
“Expect more good news in the next few days, we want a solution to the problems in Afghanistan. We want to resume trade,”
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also said his country is serious about pursuing peace in Afghanistan.
“The U.S. is serious about pursuing peace, preventing Afghanistan from continuing to be a space for international terrorism and bringing forces home,” he twitted after marathon talks between Mr Khalilzad and Taliban group in Qatar.
“Working with the Afghan government and all interested parties, the U.S. seeks to strengthen Afghan sovereignty, independence and prosperity,” he added.
