The election commission released the primary list of district council candidates about two weeks ago.
According to the list, 6152 people nominated themselves for district councils in 33 provinces (without Ghazni). The figure includes 5729 men and 422 women. Based on the figure, women have taken a share of 6.8 percent in this process.
According to the electoral law, women have a share of 25 percent in district councils elections.
Based on the list: ” no man and no woman nominated themselves for the district council elections in 42 districts, and no woman has nominated themselves in 120 districts.”
“according to Article 104 of the electoral law, there is a strong possibility that elections will be delayed in 120 districts of the country,” Wasima Badghisi, the IEC operational deputy chairperson told Hasht-e Sobh newspaper.
Based on the timeline of the election commission, the parliamentary and district council elections are scheduled to be held on 20 October 2018.
