Female Journalists Leave Job due to Insecurity in Afghanistan
More than 1,694 women have been working in the media, of which 764 are professional in the country that some of them abandon their duty due to insecurity, according to a study carried out by the Center for the Protection of Afghan women Journalists (CPAWJ) published Sunday.

The CPAWJ conducted the survey in an interview with the authorities of 325 media outlets, including 80 TVs, 159 radio stations, four news agencies and 79 printed publications in 34 provinces of Afghanistan.
According to the survey, the number of women journalists dropped this year comparing to last year.
The CPAWJ director Farida Nikzad told reporters that insecurity, inappropriate social traditions and lack of access to information are the main reasons the number of female journalists declined this year.
Meanwhile, the office of Nai-Supporting open media in Afghanistan expressed concerns over the decrease of women in media and announced that many women journalists have left their duty in the current year (solar year).
“In many provinces, women left their job due to inappropriate social traditions, and in some provinces, lack of security is the main reason behind it,” Ms. Nikzad added.
According to the survey, most female reporters are in Kabul, Balkh, and Herat, respectively and in some provinces, their presence is dimmed.
Yet, the media-sponsored bodies in Afghanistan say media had better status during Karzai government than the current administration.
