Ghani Orders IEC Not to Vow Registrants Figure: Wolesi Jirga
Some senators in Wolesi Jirga claim that president Ghani ordered the election commission not to announce the registrants’ statistics daily.
Some senators in Wolesi Jirga claim that president Ghani ordered the election commission not to announce the registrants’ statistics daily.
The first deputy president of the Senate Mohammad Alam Izadyar disclosed this issue and stressed that stopping the daily announcement of the number of participants in the registration process would have adverse consequences.
“Information about the number of participants in the electoral process should be announced to the people of Afghanistan on the provincial basis every day, otherwise this process will face further troubles,” Mr Izadyar said.
Farhad Sakhi, an MP, also strongly criticized Ghani’s decision, saying that the lack of recognition of the number of voters indicates that the government is interfering in the electoral process and wants to launch a massive fraud.
This comes as the election commission officials will be called to the parliament to answer the concerns on Tuesday.
But, the acting head of the presidential office Shah Hussain Mortazavi said on his Facebook page that the claim was a rumor. However, according to reports, the election commission has closed three registration centers after the deadly Kabul suicide bombing on Sunday.
