Ghani seeking to De-Taboo Taliban – Say Political Experts

Mohammad Ashraf Ghani spoke on different issues during the conference.
“Taliban leaders and all members, the decision is in your hands. Accept peace, come to the negotiating table, and let us build this country together,” the president said.
Ghani offered the militants a cease-fire, a release of prisoners, passports, an office in Kabul or another agreed location, and the removal of sanctions.
The president also said he would be ready to accept a review of the constitution as part of an accord with the Taliban.
“We are making this offer without preconditions in order to lead to a peace agreement,” he said, insisting that Kabul “will consider the Taliban’s view in the peace talks.”
However, political experts say the government does not have a clear policy against Taliban and Mr. Ghani intends to raise Taliban as a political party.
Faiz Farahmand, a political expert said: “Hamid Karzai called the Taliban brothers and now Ashraf Ghani remind them as a political group.
On the other hand, Dr. Najib Paykan, a political activist said the Afghan government not only intends to fight the terrorism but also has provided opportunities for them.
“Circles within the government are pushing to de-taboo Taliban and bring them to the negotiation table,” Mr. Paykan added.
The president’s speech at the conference of “Kabul Process-2” about Taliban group and that government is ready to negotiate with Taliban without any preconditions, is kind of ARG’s effort to give a new face to this group in political and social discourse.
It is a step to sacrifice the achievements of women in the country.
