According to health officials in western Herat province, over 276 residents of the province have been infected with AIDS.
“just this year, 26 people have been infected with HIV,” said Arif Shahram, the Director of AIDS treatment centre in Herat.

He expressed concerns that statistics on HIV-related illnesses are high among returnees to the country.
This common herpes virus (AIDS) is transmitted in body fluids such as saliva, blood, urine, semen and breast milk. … If your immune system weakens, the virus resurfaces — causing damage to your eyes, digestive tract, lungs or other organs.

This comes as the total number of people infected with AIDS in Afghanistan in 1393 (solar year) reached 4,500, and these figures increased to 6,000 in 1395.
