HPC Delegation to have 4-day Visit of Pakistan: Spox
The Afghan high peace council (HPC) announced that a joint delegation of the HPC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will travel to Pakistan on Tuesday to discuss peace process with the Pakistani officials.
The Afghan high peace council (HPC) announced that a joint delegation of the HPC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will travel to Pakistan on Tuesday to discuss peace process with the Pakistani officials.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, the HPC spokesman Sayed Ehsan Tahiri said that “Mohammad Umar Daudzai, head of HPC secretariat and three other officials including one from the foreign ministry will travel to Pakistan for a four-day visit”.
The delegation will meet with Pakistan’s foreign minister, army chief, influential political and religious leaders and possibly its prime minister Imran Khan.
According to the HPC, the purpose of the visit is to gain Pakistan’s practical support for the Afghan peace process and the country’s support for regional peace-building consensus.
“The Pakistan’s role is key in Afghan peace process and the that country is host to Afghan Taliban leaders and plays a decisive role in initiating direct talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban group,” Tahiri added.
Tahiri, meanwhile, urged the government not send team to Jeddah meeting, unless it gets assurance that it would “sit face-to-face” with the Taliban.
The spokesman admitted that the meeting would not involve negotiations, but rather to facilitate talks and build confidence between negotiating teams.
