Inter-Afghan Talks to Resume tomorrow
President Ashraf Ghani in a meeting with the head and members of the republic’s negotiating team assured them of government’s full support as the talks expected to resume Tuesday in Doha, Qatar.
The Afghan government’s negotiating team met President Ghani on Sunday afternoon and they are set to hold a meeting with the leadership council of High Council for National Reconciliation later today.
“Recalling the successful international experience in the peace talks, President Ghani assured full support of the government to the peace negotiating team,” the presidential palace said in a statement.
Ghulam Farooq Majroh, a member of the government negotiating team said that the talks are going to be very complicated and time-consuming.
“But we are hopeful to arrive at a result as soon as possible as people are tired of this bloody war,” he told reporters.
Ceasefire and preserving the gains are the priorities of the government negotiating team in the second phase of the peace talks while Afghanistan has witnessed escalation of violence, targeted killings of journalists, civil society activists, and government officials.
