Islamabad to Give Kabul 40,000 mt of Wheat in Aid
The Pakistani Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Friday approved to provide 40,000 metric tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan as a gift.
The Pakistani Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Friday approved to provide 40,000 metric tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan as a gift.
The ECC, which was chaired by Finance Minister Asad Umar, has considered the proposal of Ministry of National Food Security and Research for provision of 40,000 metric tons of wheat to Afghanistan as a gift, the Nation reported.
According to the report, the ECC has agreed to gift the wheat worth Rs1.73 billion to Afghanistan.
This comes as relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have recently been tense.
The activation of the Chabahar port, which links Afghanistan through Iran with free waters, virtually eliminates Afghanistan’s need for the Gwadar port of Karachi. Pakistan clocked this port many times to Afghan traders. It seems that the aid is aimed at reducing tension between the two countries.
