Karzai Calls for Suspension of Presidential Election
Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai in an interview with a Chinese media outlet said that although holding the presidential election is crucial, but establishing peace in the country is more important.
Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai in an interview with a Chinese media outlet said that although holding the presidential election is crucial, but establishing peace in the country is more important.
“holding a presidential election is important, but more important is the establishment of peace in the country,” former Afghan president Hamid Karzai said.
He asserted that the presidential election should be held after the establishment of peace in Afghanistan. In the current situation, there is not the capacity to hold a transparent and inclusive election.
He also described China’s role as constructive in the Afghan peace process, asking that country to help Kabul-Islamabad relations.
The plan to suspend the presidential election had already posed by US Special Representative for Afghan reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad which was followed the obvious opposition of the Afghan government.
