In his sixth round of trip to the region, US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad had a short stop in London to consult on Afghan peace process.
“Briefly in London to consult with senior officials from (UK government) in pursuit of our shared goal of peace in Afghanistan and security for our countries,” Khalilzad twitted on Wednesday.
This comes as US state department has recently announced the sixth round of Mr Khalilzad’s trip to 7 countries for Afghan peace process.
“After two good and productive weeks in Washington, I’m on the road again to build on what was achieved earlier this month,” said Khalilzad.
This time, Mr Khalilzad will travel to Afghanistan, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Jordan and Qatar from March 25-April 10, as part of the overall effort to facilitate a peace process that brings all Afghan parties together in inclusive intra-Afghan negotiations.
“In Kabul, the Special Representative will consult with the Afghan government and other Afghans about the status of U.S. talks with the Taliban, encourage efforts to form an inclusive negotiating team, and discuss next steps in intra-Afghan discussions and negotiations,” US state department said in a statement.
The sixth round of Mr Khalilzad’s negotiating visits to the mentioned countries comes as Afghan NSA Hamdullah Mohib, during his trip to Washington, criticised his function over the peace process.
