US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived Tuesday in Saudi Arabia to get clearance over Saudi journalist Khashoggi’s case.
Saudi critic journalist Jamal Khashoggi disappeared and allegedly slayed two weeks ago during a visit to the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.
Meanwhile, Pompeo landed in Riyadh on Tuesday morning and was to immediately meet the king over the crisis surrounding Khashoggi. Pompeo was welcomed by Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir on landing; he made no remarks to the media.
Yet, Turkish officials say they fear Khashoggi was killed and dismembered inside the consulate. Saudi officials previously have called the allegations “baseless,” but reports in US media on Tuesday suggested the kingdom may acknowledge the writer was killed there.
