This comes as Taliban group has always posed the “withdrawal of foreign troops” as one of their preconditions to join the peace process.
Taliban fighters have accentuated on this issue during interviews with media outlets on Eid days as well.
NATO Secretary-General has recently said during a meeting in London that “the way to achieve that [peace] is not to leave Afghanistan. The way to achieve that is to stay in Afghanistan”.
“we will train, assist and advise and fund the Afghan forces. Then they will at some stage understand that they will achieve more around a negotiating table than at the battlefield, or on the battlefield,” said Stoltenberg.
On the other hand, NATO secretary-general backed up the first ceasefire in the Afghan war. President Ghani had announced a ceasefire which was accepted by Taliban only on Eid days.
“It is encouraging that there is at least some real attempts to create a framework for a reconciliation process at peace,” NATO Secretary-General added.
