The officials of the two electoral bodies said Sunday that election is the demand of the Afghan people and the election commission is obliged to hold the elections.
“The two commissions are fully ready to hold the elections,” said IEC chairperson Hawa Alam Nuristani. Adding “cooperation and coordination between the two commissions are needed to hold the elections.”
She called on all parties involved in electoral affairs to assist the election commissions in holding a transparent election.
“There are no differences among the elections commissions and the two commissions are jointly trying to hold the elections transparently,” the head of IEC emphasized.
In response to a question about the peace process and the elections, she said that peace is a separate process and the election is a separate one.
“Election is a priority and the commission will not delay it,” she added.
