Peace process; Ata Mohammad Noor Meets Indian FM
The chief executive of Jamiat-e Islami party Ata Mohammad Noor in a meeting with the Indian Minister for External Affairs discussed the peace process and the role of New Delhi.
Ata Mohammad Noor on Wednesday met Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla in Delhi.
“Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla welcomed Afghan leader Ata Mohammad Noor to India,” A tweet by Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said.
“Appreciated his insights and perspectives on recent developments. India remains committed to peace, prosperity, and stability in Afghanistan,” he added.
India has played a significant role in the Afghan peace process and developments in the region and has been a strong supporter of the country’s system for nearly 20 years.
New Delhi has always stressed on an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process and has said that it will not support a process in which the Afghan government would not be part of it.
Mr. Noor is also one of the country’s leading politicians, and his role in the peace process, inter-Afghan talks, and political stability in the country is considered significant.
It is worth mentioning that the intra-Afghan talks are underway in Doha, however, it seems that the talks reached a stalemate and Afghanistan needs the support of countries in the region, including India.
