Peace process should Involve all groups of Taliban: Mohib
Addressing RAISINA 2021 along with Iranian and Indian Foreign Ministers, National Security Adviser (NSA) Hamdullah Mohib said that all branches and divisions of the Taliban must be included in the peace process, adding that this is the “best opportunity” for peace.
Addressing the virtual meeting on Friday, Hamdullah Mohib said that this is the best opportunity for Afghans to take responsibility for their country’s security.
“The peace process should involve all the different groups of the Taliban, no group should be excluded,” NSA stressed.
According to him, now is the time for the Taliban to make peace with the Afghan government and become part of the Afghan society.
Mr. Mohib said that after the Doha agreement, the Taliban had a good opportunity to increase their political presence in politics by expanding the political process, but the group lost this opportunity by presenting wrong scenarios for victory.
In another part of his speech, NSA considered President Ghani the most qualified person to lead the transfer process.
“President Ghani is probably the best person to lead the transition. When a majority of the US troops withdrew in 2014, he led that transition. We are creating a team to work with the US and NATO on their transition out of the country,” he added.
The Biden administration recently announced that the US troops will withdraw from Afghanistan by September, without presenting any conditions, after which the Afghan government said it would respect the US government’s decision.
In recent months, the Afghan government has become closer to Iran and India, the two countries that have shown the most support to the Afghan government in the peace process.
