Leading a high-level delegation to Kapisa province on Wednesday, President Ashraf Ghani said all the people of Afghanistan want a lasting peace within the framework of the republican system, and that his task as the president is to integrate the Taliban “into the system of the Islamic Republic” of Afghanistan and he will do so.
“There is a national consensus in this regard. Leave some; they dream that if they form a government with the Taliban, no one will hang them. They should think again,” said President Ashraf Ghani, addressing a gathering of Kapisa residents.

President Ghani stressed that the people of Afghanistan will make the final decision on peace and no one will be able to impose anything on these people by force.
Mr Ghani noted that he is proceeding the peace process wisely and that while global conditions are changing, the government is ready to manage the peace process.

President Ghani continued that as a president he has two tasks in the peace process, the first of which is to integrate the Taliban into the Republic system. The president added that he is protecting the gains of the security forces as the supreme commander of the armed forces.
“I have a clear commitment to protecting and upholding the achievements of the security forces as well as equipping and financing them,” he emphasized.
According to him, this time, the planes of the security forces would not be sold to foreign countries as old iron.

The president made the remarks as efforts to begin intra-Afghan talks are underway, though, the exact date is not yet clear.
President Ghani had already ruled out any possible “interim or caretaker” administration for bringing peace to the country.
