President M. Ashraf Ghani has had a telephone conversation with US secretary of state Michael Pompeo on 20 April and the secretary expressed disappointment over postponement of Qatar meeting, US state department said in a statement.
“Secretary condemned the Taliban’s recent announcement of a spring offensive and underscored the United States’ solidarity with the Afghan people’s pursuit of a comprehensive peace agreement that would end the suffering and destruction,” the statement said.
According to the statement, Mr Pompeo also expressed the United States’ disappointment that the intra-Afghan dialogue, planned for Doha, Qatar, had been postponed.
This comes as America is directly in talks with the Taliban and it likely will reach some agreements in 2019 with the group.
There is also speculations that US has bypassed Kabul during talks with Taliban and is paving the grounds to hand over the power to this group.
