President Ghani Appoints Election Commissioners

President Ghani on Sunday appointed new members of the election commissions, chairman of the secretariat of the election commission and electoral commissions in separate decrees.


President Ghani on Sunday appointed new members of the election commissions, chairman of the secretariat of the election commission and electoral commissions in separate decrees.
“Out of 81 candidates offered by the political parties registered with the ministry of justice and civil society organizations associated with elections, 14 of them are appointed as members of the independent election commission,” the decree read.
1. Sayed Esmatullah Mal, for five years;
2. Mawlana M. Abdullah, for five years;
3. Awrangzeb, for five years;
4. M. Hanif Danishyar, for five years;
5. Musafer Qoqandi, for three years;
6. Hawa Alam Nuristani, for three years;
7. Rahima Zarifi, for three years;

The decree states that the introduced members to the Independent Election Commission are obliged to select their chairman, deputy, and secretary of the commission during their first meeting and start their activities according to the constitution of the country and the new election law.
Habib-Ur-Rahman Nang, meanwhile, was appointed as head of the secretariat of the Independent Election Commission, according to President Ghani’s decree.

President Ghani also appointed the new members of the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC). the members of the ECC are as follows:
1. Mohammad Qasim Elyasi, for five years;
2. Zohra Bayan Shinwari, for five years;
3. Mawlawi Din M. Azimi, for five years;
4. M. Yunus Toghra, for three years;
5. Sayed Qutbuddin Roidar, for three years;

Based on President Ghani’s decree, Chaman Shah Etemadi is the new chairman of the secretariat of the IECC.
This comes as over 5 months have passed since the parliamentary elections held and the new parliament has not yet formed.
