President Ghani Discussed Turkey Peace Conference with Khalilzad
President Ashraf Ghani discussed the peace process and preparations for the Turkey conference with US special representative Zalmay Khalilzad at the presidential palace.
The Presidential Palace said in a statement on Saturday that both sides discussed in detail the forthcoming Turkish conference, its timetable, the final list of participants, and the preparations for the conference.
The meeting comes as President Ghani explained his peace proposal plan a few days ago and announced the Afghan government’s full preparation to attend the meeting.
The president drafted a three-phase peace plan called achieving the Ultimate Success, stressing the need to seize the opportunity and bring lasting peace to the country.
The Istanbul Peace Conference is expected to be held on 16 April 2021 in Turkey. The meeting will last for ten days and will try to encourage the Afghan government, the Taliban, and various political groups to agree on Afghanistan’s “political future”.
