President Ashraf Ghani met with US special envoy on Afghan peace process Zalmay Khalilzad on Wednesday evening in Kabul, and stressed on ceasefire before Intra-Afghan talks.
The presidential palace in a statement said that president Ashraf Ghani in a meeting with US special representative on Afghan peace process Zalmay Khalilzad discussed next steps in the peace process and emphasized on ceasefire or reduction in violence before start of intra-Afghan negotiations.
Ambassador Khalilzad said that he will talk with the Taliban in this regard. The two sides also discussed the release of Taliban prisoners, underlining that the Afghan government and Taliban should reach an agreement on clear mechanism through the technical teams.
The meeting comes as Mr Khalilzad and US are accused of supporting the Taliban. The Afghan government considers the Taliban responsible for bloody attacks on maternity ward in Kabul and a funeral in Nangarhar; something America denies.
