President Ghani Lands in Balkh
President Ashraf Ghani, leading a high-level government delegation, landed in northern Balkh province on Wednesday morning.
The presidential palace said in a statement that the purpose of President Ghani’s trip to the northern zone is to assess the overall security status.
“During the visit, the President will have separate meetings with civilian and military officials, political and jihadi leaders, tribal elders, and influential figures,” said the statement.
Mohammad Mohaqeq, a political leader and an adviser to President Ghani, accompanies him on this trip.
Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum, meanwhile, arrived in Balkh province on Tuesday night, where it is said to lead the war against the Taliban.
However, the Taliban have recently captured Sheberghan city, the capital of Jawzjan province, and the birthplace of Marshal Dostum.
