Prisoner Swap process Completed; 7 Taliban prisoners to be under Surveillance in Qatar
Afghan NSC announced that the prisoner swap between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban was completed, except the few prisoners for which Afghan allies have reservation.
The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has received our commandos held hostage by Taliban, after which the government released the remaining 400 convicts, except the few for which our partners have reservations,” said Javid Faisal, a spokesman for the NSC. Adding that “diplomatic efforts are ongoing”.
The office of NSC emphasized that the Afghan government expect the talks to start promptly.
Meanwhile, 7 Taliban prisoners accused of killing foreign nationals will be moved to Qatar to be under surveillance.
Australia and France have opposed the release of those Taliban prisoners who had been convicted of killing their nationals. “There won’t be any release without the consent of the Australian government and the victims’ families,” NSC spokesman added
