US envoy on Afghan peace Zalmay Khalilzad says that peace deal with the Taliban puts Afghanistan on a path to peace after signing the agreement in Doha.
“Today is a day for hope. After years of conflict, we have signed an agreement with the Taliban that achieves US objectives and puts Afghanistan on a path to peace,” Khalilzad twitted.
After signing the agreement with Taliban in Doha, Khalilzad added that history will judge Afghans by how they embrace this moment of opportunity.
“The mistakes of the past should be avoided and Afghans must come together and build an inclusive, united, and sovereign country,” he said.
According to him, the real celebration will be when the US achieve its goals.
The remarks come after Khalilzad signed the deal in Doha where representatives of over 30 countries and organizations attended to observe the agreement.
