Regional Countries’ Role Vital for Afghan Peace

Afghanistan national security adviser (NSA) Hamdullah Mohib stressed in Tashkent, capital of Uzbekistan that peace in Afghanistan is peace in the region, adding that the role of regional countries in Afghan peace process is vital.

In Tashkent, Mr Mohib met with his Uzbek counterpart Dr. Viktor Mahmudov, Uzbek Foreign Minister (FM) Abdulaziz Kamelov and discussed a range of issues, including peace, joint infrastructure projects, economic and cultural cooperation projects, the office of NSC said in a statement.
FM Kamelov briefed the Afghan side on his recent engagements in Doha.
“He said peace is possible when led, owned, and controlled by the Afghan government,” he said.

Mr Mohib, meanwhile, appreciated the role of Uzbekistan in supporting the Afghan peace process and emphasized that the Third Conference of “Kabul Process” will focus on the role of regional countries in the peace process.
“Peace in Afghanistan is peace in the region,” Mohib accentuated.
The two sides agreed to hold the next bilateral security commission meeting in Kabul.
