Registration Process Kicks Off for Afghan Presidential Elections

The candidates for the presidential election from now on (22 Dec.) have 12 days to enroll themselves and their deputies.
Although the timetable for the presidential election has changed several times; the IEC has announced its final calendar on Friday.
The IEC will announce the preliminary list of presidential candidates on 8 January 2019 and will announce the final list on 15 February. Attempts are underway to form electoral tickets among the candidates and political groups. Among them, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, Mohammad Hanif Atmar, a former national security adviser, Ahmad Wali Massoud, head of Shahid Massoud foundation and Shaida Mohammad Abdali, a former Afghan ambassador to India are the individuals that have officially announced their nominations for the upcoming presidential election.
