The Afghanistan Defense Ministry vowed in a statement the security forces recaptured northeastern Badakhshan’s Kohistan district from Taliban insurgents late Saturday.
The Kuhistan district was cleared of the Taliban insurgents late Saturday and the security forces continue to advance their operations, the statement said.
Taliban left the district when they learned about the security forces program, the provincial council member Mahbob Rahman Tal’at told BBC.
Meanwhile, Taliban launched their “Al-Khandaq” spring operation a few days ago. They attacked seven districts of Badakhshan province last week.
Kohistan district is located eighty kilometers north-east of Fayzabad, and it is militarily a key area for both Kabul and the Taliban group.
