The insurgents have said in its press statement that Gen. Nicholson’s remarks are unfounded and the Taliban will not talk with unauthorized parties.
The statement said that there are no negotiations with the Afghan government, and if the group enter talks, it will publicly announce the issue.
The Taliban also added that as long as foreign forces are in Afghanistan, they will never enter into talks.
Gen. John Nicholson, commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, has recently said the Taliban are in secret talks with government officials to establish a cease-fire.
General Nicholson said at a meeting last week that there is a lot of diplomatic activity and talks behind the scenes at various levels, BBC quoted from AFP as saying.
“I should underline that they secretly met with each other. They could negotiate,” Mr Nicholson said.
