“Umary town was one of the priorities of our security forces,” said Sunnatullah Teymuri, a spokesperson for Takhar governor.
Takhar governor’s spokesperson said the government is planning to destroy the town in consultation with local residents.
The town was bilt a year ago with the management and ownership of Taliban, and the locals acquired properties by buying houses and shops along with the Taliban.
Now the government calls it the “freedom” town.
Mr. Teymuri underlined that as a result of the operations by the security forces in “Darqad” and “Khawja Bahauddin” districts, 12 villages have so for fallen to state forces.
According to him, the Afghan security forces did not suffer casualties but at least 18 Taliban members were killed and 21 others wounded during the operation.
Takhar security officials meanwhile said the mopping up operation will continue to clear the area.
Takhar governor had earlier vowed that drug trafficking is also a reason behind insecurity in Darqad district.
