On 10 December, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad and Deputy Assistant to the President of the United States, Senior Director for South and Central Asia at the National Security Council Lisa Curtis. Uz daily reported.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that Uzbekistan attaches great importance to development of traditionally good-neighborly relations with Afghanistan, and stands for establishment of peace and stability, ensuring sustainable development in this country.
During a meeting with the ambassador Khalilzad, the Uzbek foreign minister supported president Ghani’s peace plan unveiled at Geneva conference, adding that there is no military solution to the Afghan problem.
It should be noted that the U.S. special representative for the Afghan reconciliation, within the framework of his visit, will also tour Turkmenistan, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Afghanistan with an inter-departmental delegation.
This is the third round of Mr Khalilzad’s trip to countries involved in Afghan peace process.
