To Build Trust, Dismissed Commissioners should be Tried

Speaking about the amendment of electoral law, Sayed Alireza Mahmoodi said, during an interview with Khorshid TV channel, that the dismissal of electoral commissioners has no use if they are not tried.
On Tuesday, president Ghani fired the commissioners of the two electoral bodies.
“If the members of the two commissions along with their heads are not prosecuted and tried, it will be understood that the presidential palace, according to the same rumors, was an accomplice of them, engineered the election process and finalized the forces they wanted to enter into the parliament by them. Now, president Ghani fired them like many of those who have been thrown out when he took office,” Mahmoodi said.
Referring to the parliamentary elections held in October, Mr Mahmoodi added: “if these individuals are not tried for having negative performance in regard to the fate of Afghan people and the parliament, the president is guilty and no trust will be built”.
“In order to build trust, the commissioners and those who have violated this process should be tried. The parliamentary election held in October should be declared invalid and a transparent one should be held,” he added.
Talking about the amendments of the electoral law, he said that “if experienced and qualified people at the national and international level would be appointed as the head of the electoral bodies, giving them authority, then, there is no doubt that amendments will have the positive result”.
“Dismissing and installing are not like that much important. It is important that expert, committed and unbiased people be at the head of affairs,” the chairman of the leadership council stressed. Adding that “the question is, what was the reason behind the dismissal of the members of both commissions. Whether there was a problem with them or there was a legal problem, and if they were guilty, if they were to blame, if they neglected, if they destroyed a national process like the parliamentary elections, the problem would not be resolved only by firing them”.
