Trump Writes Letter to PM Khan; Asks to Help Peace Talks
US President Donald Trump has written a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan and sought Pakistan’s help in facilitating peace talks with Taliban.
US President Donald Trump has written a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan and sought Pakistan’s help in facilitating peace talks with Taliban.
This comes as US president Donald Trump has accused Pakistan of doing nothing for the United States.
“We no longer pay Pakistan the $Billions because they would take our money and do nothing for us, Bin Laden being a prime example, Afghanistan being another. They were just one of many countries that take from the United States without giving anything in return,” Trump wrote on twitter.
The US president in the letter asked Pakistani PM to help bring Taliban leadership to the negotiating table.
Talking to senior journalists earlier today, the prime minister said Pakistan is ready to play its due role in ending the prolonged crisis, the News International reported.
Efforts have been accelerated for Afghan peace since the US state department appointed Zalmay Khalilzad as the special representative for Afghan peace and reconciliation process.
The US State Department’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad has begun his third round of trips to the region, according to a statement by the US state department.
“Khalilzad will travel to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar with an interagency delegation from December 2 – 20,” the statement read.
