Unknown Illness in Badakhshan Kills 23 Children: officials

An unknown illness in northeastern Badakhshan province took the lives of 23 children under the age of five, said local officials on Thursday.

Ahmad Jawid Mujadadi, a member of the provincial council says that 10 children in “Nesh” village and 13 children in “Dasht” village of Badakhshan’s Yemgan district died as a result of an unknown disease.

According to him, the cause of the disease is not yet known, but locals say its symptoms are similar to pneumonia, killing several children in one day.

Badakhshan public health officials say that they have dispatched medical and drug teams to monitor patients’ status closely.
