US Violated Doha Agreement: Taliban
Taliban spokesman says that US forces launched airstrikes on the group’s members in Nangarhar and Helmand provinces. Resolute support mission says they defend Afghan forces against Taliban attacks.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban group, said in a statement on Monday that the US violated Doha agreement by launching airstrikes against the group’s positions in Nangarhar and Helmand provinces.
The Taliban group warned that if airstrikes and bombardments in Kandahar are not immediately halted, the group will be forced to respond seriously and the responsibility shall fall on Americans.
US-Forces Afghanistan spokesman Colonel Sonny Leggett, meanwhile, reacting on twitter, saying that the Taliban’s accusations that the US violated the US-Taliban agreement are false.
“US Forces have been clear and consistent: We will defend Afghan forces against Taliban attacks,” he said. “The Taliban’s campaign of unclaimed attacks and targeted killings of government officials, civil society leaders and journalists must also cease for peace to succeed,” he added.
US forces spokesman also called on all sides to reduce violence.
