The Grand National Coalition (GNC) of Afghanistan commented in a press release regarding US troops withdrawal from Afghanistan, saying the withdrawal will not lead to the victory of armed oppositions.
The GNC also asserted that it will fight along with the country’s security forces – if needed – against the oppositions.
The statement:
The statement of the Grand National Coalition of Afghanistan about the reduction of US military troops
September 11, 2001, was a shocking and historic event that was carried out by the al-Qaeda group in the United States. In this brutal terrorist attack, World Trade Towers were destroyed and thousands of innocent people were killed; This horrible crime resulted in various political, economic, security and military consequences in the United States and in the world. Taliban faced America’s severe reaction after it refused to give Osama Bin Laden, who was responsible for the September 11th terrorist attack, to the United States of America. The move led the United States to overthrow the Taliban regime at the head of a global coalition and with the cooperation of the Resistance Front. The collapse of the Taliban regime and the deployment of US military forces along with the international community to Afghanistan have followed major changes and consequences in our country. The military forces of the United States and the international community have been present in Afghanistan for the preservation of stability, security, and support of the democratic process for seventeen years. During this time, progress has been made in the areas of governance, legislation, the formation of political alliances, civil institutions, the establishment of free media, holding elections, infrastructural developments, etc. The new US administration led by president Trump announced a new strategy to combat terrorism in Afghanistan which was welcomed and opposed by some countries. But in the light of the new US strategy, there were still no positive security changes in our country when president Trump, without consultation with the Afghan people, ordered the withdrawal of seven thousand troops from Afghanistan. The US president’s decision in the current critical situation does not fit the needs and the demands of our people.
Although the people are not happy with the US president’s measure, they believe that armed oppositions cannot reach their goals militarily by the withdrawal of some US military units. The GNC of Afghanistan is for peace talks, but if the armed oppositions do not accept peace and continue the war, the people and the GNC will bravely defend their people and homeland alongside the country’s security forces. The GNC accentuates that armed oppositions will never win militarily. It is the responsibility of the GNC to commit itself to the people and the nation in taking decisive decisions in cooperation with the country’s security forces and will not allow armed oppositions and their regional supporters to rule the country’s destiny and the people through war and compulsion.
