Uzbekistan Hosted Meeting on “Financing of Terrorism based on Drug Trafficking”
DID Press: A group of experts from international organisations gathered in Tashkent to discuss the topic “Financing of terrorism based on drug trafficking – countering security threats in the CSTO, CIS, SCO”.
A round table was held in Tashkent on the topic: “Financing of terrorism based on drug trafficking – countering security threats in the CSTO, CIS, SCO”, organized by the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure Shanghai Cooperation Organization together with the Anti-Terrorist Center of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee reports.
According to uzdaily, the event was attended by experts from the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism, the Central Asian Regional Information Coordination Center, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the Committee of Heads of Law Enforcement Units of the Council of Heads of Customs Services of the CIS Member States, the International Training -methodological center of financial monitoring, Coordination Service of the Council of Commanders of the Border Troops.
The roundtable participants considered issues of cooperation between relevant international organizations in the field of maintaining security, exchanged views at an expert level on trends and specifics of threats in the field of combating drug trafficking and the financing of terrorism, as well as effective practices and methods for suppressing and neutralizing these threats.
The meeting comes as concerns over cultivation and drug trafficking rised following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.
