US FM:

Washington Not Know How Efforts for Peace will End

U.S. Secretary Mike Pompeo said Tuesday that President Donald Trump wants to bring many troops home and that Washington does not know how these efforts towards peace and reconciliation will end.

U.S. Secretary Mike Pompeo said Tuesday that President Donald Trump wants to bring many troops home and that Washington does not know how these efforts towards peace and reconciliation will end.
For more than 18 years, American troops have been fighting the war in Afghanistan. It’s become the longest war in U.S. history.

Pompeo spoke to thousands of veterans Tuesday at the American Legion’s 101st National Convention in downtown Indy.
“Our 18 years of military, diplomatic and economic engagement helped transform Afghan society and we crushed Al Qaeda,” said Pompeo.

Mr Pompeo also said that American leaders never sought permanent military presence in Afghanistan.
“For a year, and continuing today, we continue to work to get clear-eyed engagement with all Afghans. We don’t know how these efforts towards peace and reconciliation will end, but President Trump has committed to make sure we get it right,” said Pompeo.
The remarks come a day after US president Donald Trump said during a press conference in France that he has ‘no rush’ to withdraw troops from Afghanistan.
