Taliban group in a statement reacted against holding the presidential elections, describing it as a false process and urged the people not to partake in electoral campaigns.
“The Islamic Emirate shall exert utmost efforts in its prevention,” Zabihullah Mujahid, who introduces himself as Taliban spokesman said in a statement regarding the presidential elections scheduled to be held in September.
“As campaigns for these theatrical elections are already in full swing and rallies are being organized, the Mujahideen of Islamic Emirate will be becoming their barrier. To prevent losses, God forbid, from being incurred by our fellow compatriots, they must stay away from gatherings and rallies that could become potential targets,” added the statement.
Taliban also claimed that a few figures are pushing to sabotage the peace process, though they did not name any specific persons.
According to the group, “the election process is being instructed by foreigners and embassies in Kabul”.
“The election process is nothing more than a ploy to deceive the common people,” the statement said.
This comes as Taliban delegation is currently negotiating with the US officials in Doha as a potential peace deal is possible.
