Gulalai Noor Safi, a member of the High Peace Council (HPC) emphasized on women’s role in peace process, saying “women are the main victims of war should take their role serious in bringing peace.
The HPC held a meeting under the title of “Peace Building” in northern Mazar-e Sharif, attended by women representatives from Sar-e Pul, Samangan, Balkh, Faryab and Jawzjan provinces.
“The role of women in HPC is not symbolic and we have had many achievements so far,” said Gulalai Noor Safi, an HPC member.
“The Peace Building meeting held for women representatives of five northern provinces of Afghanistan to inform the delegates to work better in the field of peace building,” Ms Safi added.
The chairwoman of Sar-e Pul’s women affairs Nasim Arezo said women have a key role in bringing peace at the meeting.
“Women have a significant role in bringing peace and Sar-e Pul’s women department has had remarkable achievements in this regard,” the chairwoman of Sar-e Pul’s women affairs said. “We have entered talks with Taliban through their women who live in the city and their husbands fighting against the government in the mountains, and a large number of them joined peace process by providing jobs for them.”
“Now, they gave up war and are working alongside other people,” she added.
Twelve representatives had been invited from each provinces to the three-day “Building Peace” meeting.
