Local officials in Herat province met with west zone UNICEF president reviewing challenges of street children in the province.
The officials expressed concerns over the increased number of street children in western Herat province.

The deputy to provincial social affairs Monesa Hasanzada described UNICEF as a renowned institution and reminded of its activities in providing services to harmed children.
“There are 10,000 street children in Herat which is alarming,” Ms Hasanzada said.

Meanwhile, UNICEF head in west zone said providing social services for deprived children is one of the priorities of the body.
“Children need to have access to education, proper nutrition, health services, psychosocial and social counseling,” UNICEF president said. “This institution is committed to taking practical measures in these areas in cooperation with the Department of Labor and Social Affairs and other partner organizations.

Abdul Qayyum Afghan, chairman of the Department of Labor and Social Affairs, who attended the meeting emphasized the need to provide basic facilities for vulnerable children in Herat province.
