Women and Children in Bamyan Deprived of Basic Healthcare Services

DIDPress: Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) has expressed deep concern over the healthcare situation in Bamyan province, Afghanistan, in a recently published report, stating that thousands of people—particularly pregnant women and children—are deprived of the most basic medical services.

The international humanitarian organization reported that since 2022, it has established three healthcare centers in the region.

These centers have provided over 80,000 outpatient consultations, approximately 8,500 prenatal checkups, and more than 150 safe deliveries to date.

Despite these efforts, Médecins Sans Frontières emphasized that the current medical infrastructure remains insufficient to meet the needs of the region’s vulnerable population.

The lack of access to primary healthcare, especially in remote areas, poses serious risks to the health of women and children.

The organization had previously warned about the acute shortage of female medical staff in Afghanistan, identifying it as one of the main barriers preventing women from receiving proper healthcare services.

Médecins Sans Frontières has called on the international community to take more effective action to strengthen Afghanistan’s healthcare infrastructure and to support medical staff, especially in underserved regions.
