Washington Declares Afghanistan No Longer U.S Foreign Policy Priority
DIDPress: Dorothy Shea, US Ambassador to the UN, said that Afghanistan is no longer a priority in U.S. foreign policy, stressing that meaningful change must come from within the country.

During a recent UNSC session focused on Afghanistan’s situation, Ambassador Shea remarked,
“It is time for change to originate internally in Afghanistan, and the Afghan people and government must assume responsibility for the country’s future developments.”
She clarified that while Afghanistan is no longer a central focus of the Trump administration’s foreign policy agenda, safeguarding the lives of American citizens, securing the release of detainees, and preventing Afghanistan from becoming a safe haven for terrorist organizations remain critical U.S. priorities.
Ambassador Shea also warned about the dire conditions facing Afghanistan, noting the ongoing challenges of severe poverty, high unemployment, and insufficient essential infrastructure.
She concluded by underscoring the importance of sustained international cooperation to avert the total collapse of Afghanistan’s civil institutions.
