DIDPress: UN Secretary-General expressed concern over the escalation of violence in Syria, urging an immediate halt to violations of Syria’s sovereignty.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres voiced deep concern over the alarming increase of violence in Syria and demanded an immediate end to all forms of violence against civilians.
“I am deeply alarmed by the continued escalation of violence in Syria. I unequivocally condemn all forms of violence against civilians,” wrote Guterres in a post on X.
He also condemned Israel’s recent airstrikes on Syrian territory and warned against reports of renewed Israeli military redeployments to the Golan Heights.
According to the UN chief, these actions constitute a clear violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Guterres further called on all parties to respect international law and immediately cease any violations of sovereignty and international rights.
He underlined that “a sustainable solution to the Syrian crisis can only be achieved through respect for the territorial integrity of nations and the protection of civilians.”
